  5. DLSupCBF and DLSupCX Comparison and Overview
  6.  
  7.    DLSupCBF (DLSuperC for Binary File Directory Compare) is a
  8. compare program that is similar to DLSupCX.  That is, both DLSupCX
  9. and DLSupCBF are targeted toward handling whole file directories.  This
  10. is an extension to DLSuperC that only processes single file pairs.
  11.  
  12.    Further, DLSupCX considers input files to be composed of Ascii text.
  13. The processing options of DLSuperC for detecting text line differences
  14. are  available as the processing kernel within the program to process all
  15. the files for selected for processing.  File inspection is made to detect
  16. binary files as a special  case.
  17.  
  18.    Binary files within the inspected directory are processed separately
  19. and produce results shown in a combined summary table.  DLSupCX is,
  20. therefore a program that handles both types of files -- text and binary. It
  21. can also be used as a substitue for DLSuperC to give equivalent results
  22. when processing two text files -- simply and effortlessly.

  24.    DLSupCBF is a directory inspecting program that compares programs
  25. only on a binary basis.  Text and binary input files are both processed
  26. as binary inputs. The binary granularity (binary files are compared as
  27. being the same or different - no inspection as to where they differ) allows
  28. the program to operate at a high level of efficiency.  This allows for
  29. several extensions to the representation of the comparison results.

  31.    DLSupCBF can even process binary files contained within a starting
  32. set of directory nodes and completing the comparison throughout the
  33. pairs subdirectory terminal nodes.  As an example, a complete directory
  34. compare could be made between two different levels of an application
  35. program at the top level (for example, c:\Applications\Delphi3 vs.
  36. c:\Applications\Delphi2).   The comparison results are either returned
  37. and reported in a "text or tree simulated" structure.  There are two
  38. special "Comparison Types\Lists"  that list complete directory tree
  39. member structures with no comparison results.  As an overall picture of
  40. a complex directory structure, this simplified view can  be helpful in
  41. understanding the other comparison reports returned.

  43.   The six (6)  DLSupCBF "Compare/List Options" are given below as:

  45.        1. Compare All Like-Name Files - Current New/Old Dirs
  46.            -- Reports a summary list of the changed and unchanged files.
  47.        2. Compare All Like-Name Files - All Sub Levels
  48.            -- Reports a "Tree" list followed by a summary list.
  49.        3. Select & Compare  - Like-Name File List -  ...
  50.            -- Similar to 1. but the user selects the files from a Like-Name
  51.               list.
  52.        4. Select & Compare - Like/UnLike Name File List  ...
  53.            -- Similar to 1. but the user selects from 2 lists - Like and
  54.               UnLike..
  55.        5. List All Sub Levels Dir/Files - New Dir Tree - Only
  56.           -- Text tree presentation list of the Directory and Files (New Dir)
  57.        6. List All Sub Levels Dir/Files - New/Old Dir Tree
  58.           -- Text tree list of the Directory and Files (New and Old Dir)

  60.    There are seven (7) "Preference Options" . These are:

  62.    1.  AEQF  -  Accept Equal length/file-date as matching binary files.
  63.       -- Minimizes processing. No New/Old File comparison is needed.
  64.       -- Acceptable for personal directories that have legitimate time
  65.          stamps.
  66.    2.  CHGO -  Report only changed files in the "Overall Summary
  67.         Report".
  68.       -- Reduces the reported items in the final summary list.
  69.    3.  SPNM -  Suppress report of Not-Paired Names in the Overall
  70.         Summary.
  71.       -- Eliminates the list of file names of the files not paired.
  72.          Reduces the reported items. Only valid for Compare type 1.
  73.    4.  LDEO  -  List directory entries only. Suppress file entries.
  74.       -- With Compare Type options 5 and 6,  eliminates file names.
  75.    5.  OVSO  - Supress Tree list view and report Overall Summary -
  76.          Only.
  77.       -- Eliminates all tree view entries and reports only statistics.
  78.    6.  SDFL  - Supresses Inserted/Deleted directory file entries.
  79.       -- Eliminates file entries on no matching Directory entries.
  80.    7.  SMFS  - Supresses matched files in the multi-dir compare option
  81.       -- Replaces consecutive matched files lines in the report with
  82.          a single line and information on how many file lines were suppressed
